No prerequisites, but you do need to apply. We want a diverse group of 9-12 grade students who are excited and ready to work hard. This is a 1-credit science course offered next year, second semester (2011), and includes a 12-day trip to the Costa Rican rainforest during April vacation.

FABRIC CRAFTS WORKSHOPS
Learn to sew, knit, crochet, bring your own projects to finish, or explore new fabric crafting techniques. Open to MDIHS staff and students. Workshop sessions will be held every Wednesday, from 2:30-4:00 PM, in room 121 (Ms. Slack), between January 20th and March 31st.

WINTER-SPRING ADULT ED CLASSES
Mt. Desert Island Adult & Community Education Winter-Spring classes will begin the week of January 25th. A complete listing of classes and their descriptions can be found on the Adult Education website (always linked on the Home page of the MDIHS website). Please pre-register by calling Ph. 288-4703. Classes may be full or canceled based on enrollment. Reminder: GED testing is available by appointment (free for individuals).
THE BIG READ
The Big Read is underway! Join an estimated 1,200 readers in our community as we read Jack London's - The Call of the Wild together. The Big Read, a literacy program supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and, locally, Island Readers & Writers.

STUDENT COUNCIL BLOOD DRIVE
Students, staff, and community members at MDIHS gave a part of themselves, literally, to help others on Thursday. MDIHS Student Council helped organize the Red Cross Blood Drive. Eighty-five (85) units of blood were successfully donated. Thanks to all involved and those that signed up to give the gift of life.

POST SECONDARY DAY
The entire student body participated in the Post Secondary Workshop on Monday, October 26th. Forty representatives were available from 4-year and 2-year schools, technical colleges and the military. Students had the opportunity to rotate through three different sessions of their choice. Senior Tyler McKim stated, "It was excellent, well put together and a great job. I really liked the chance to pick beforehand and plan out the day."
